Exmouth secure Cup win

After observing 2 minutes silence this Remembrance Day Devon Cup match got under way with Exmouth controlling territory and possession. The early pressure applied resulted in a penalty following some solid rucking; Will Flinn calmly slotted from 30m. Despite early dominance Devonport were clearly not going to roll over and started to get into the match after some unusually poor tackling. Despite this they never really troubled the Exmouth try line and quick turnover ball and some powerful running from Sam Warren saw him move play swiftly past the halfway line and then good clean clear out ball from the pack put fullback Rabbie Hansford in space on the blindside where he drew his man and Sam Warren powered over from 30 meters. Will Flinn added the extras and from then on Exmouth kept a stranglehold on the game which, try as they did, Devonport couldn’t break. The game was put to bed after Bill Cuthbert came off the bench to join the pack rather than his traditional spot in the three quarters; his dynamic and aggressive play saw Exmouth drive up the field with quick offloads and strong ruck play. A neat kicking display at fly half and a man of the match performance at scrum half by Chrissy Wright saw Exmouth with a 5 meter scrum which the tight five dominated. Picking up from the base Captain and number eight, Conner O Shaunnessy drove over for a well deserved try. With the successful conversion the game was all but won and with the full list of replacements now on the field Exmouth kept the opposition scoreless and completed a great trip to Plymouth to progress to the next round with a 0 - 17 victory.
