Good Home effort

Exmouth U15s 12 - 31 Exeter Saracens

With a bye into the next round of the cup, Exmouth U15s played a hastily arranged fixture against a strong Exeter Saracens team.

Kicking off on a warm sunny morning, Exmouth found themselves pegged back deep inside their own half for much of the first 15 mins. Some sound defensive work denied Saracens several scoring opportunities but it was from a misfielded high ball that the Saracens winger went over to make the score 0 - 5.

A few mins later and Saracens added another converted try under the posts to make it 0 - 12 with some strong running from their backs.

Not to be outdone, some great work in the tight from the Exmouth pack saw them make headway into the Saracens 22 where Andrew Wheeler emerged from the blindside of a maul to go over in the corner making the score 5 - 12.

Saracens were quick to reply with an unconverted try to make the half time score 5 - 17.

After the break, Saracens continued where they had left off adding a fourth try which was converted to make it 5 - 24.

Exmouth had an extended period of possession and territory with some strong running from Taiyla Young and Rees Banks, without adding to their points tally, only for Saracens to add a breakway try from deep inside their own half to make the score 5 - 31.

The Exmouth heads didn't drop and they continued to push Saracens back into their own 22. A scything break from the Exmouth no 6, Nick Driver saw him tackled just short of the try line, only for the ball to be quickly recycled for Tarquin Kerton-Johnson to gather and cross under the posts. Alex Taylor added the conversion to make the score a more respectable 12 - 31.

The final 10 minutes saw Exmouth finish the stronger of the two teams, camped inside the opposition 22 but they just couldn't finish off a couple of try scoring opportunities.

The final score of 12 - 31 flattered the opposition with Exmouth dominating the scrum and tight forward play. Plenty to work on in the line out and to cut out the handling errors which cost some points.
