Exmouth U10’s dominate in the game against Topsham on Sunday.

Exmouth U10’s dominated in the game against Topsham on Sunday. From the first whistle to the last Exmouth worked hard in all areas of the game to defeat Topsham by 35 points to 10.

Early pressure from Exmouth on the Topsham line produced the first scoring opportunity for Owen Tidball . With Topsham struggling to get out of their own half in the opening 10 minutes and the Exmouth Scrum working well Exmouth had plenty of room to extend their lead when Scrum half Stewart Masters passed from out to Josh Cressall for a quick pass to Ben Dawson on the wing who used his considerable pace to score. Soon after Topsham conceded a penalty with a high tackle and this gave Tidball the opportunity to score his second of the day.

From another scrum 5m from the Topsham line, Masters passed to the powerful Harry sprague who was just too strong for the Topsham lads and he drove over to score. Exmouth stole the ball soon after the restart and applied further pressure; with try number five coming again from Tidball. Topsham broke through the otherwise tight Exmouth defence to pull one back just before half time.

Topsham came out for the second half with renewed vigour and it required a brilliant tackle from Zoe Hall to stop the charging Topsham forward to keep them out, but when Exmouth lost the ball in a maul Topsham’s olly Jones ran in for their second try. However the Exmouth Scrum was continuing to work well and Sprague picked the ball up at the base and charged to make good ground but was tackled short of the line. Another scrum was awarded to Exmouth and this time it was Eddie Ford who picked up and broke through the defence to score. Sprague added another before the final whistle to wrap up a convincing performance from the whole team.

‘Player of the Match’ was awarded to Eddie Ford for his consistent work throughout the game and there could be no other nominee for ‘Tackler of the Match’ but Zoe (Bob) Hall.
