Welcome sunshine brightened up a chilly morning as the under tens kicked off against their hosts Honiton this Sunday.

A couple of minutes in and Finn Musgrove started as strongly as he was to finish by scoring a super try set up by some fine linking play from Liam Daniels, Scott Acheson and Raff Gill.
Not many minutes later Honiton retaliated by taking advantage of tentative play from some of the less experienced members of the Exmouth squad, and forced their way through to level up the score.
But early nerves soon wore off and this turned into what the two Exmouth coaches agreed was the “Best match seen so far this season”.
Coming on as a reserve midway through the first half, Harry Sale scored a try within less than a minute, taking Exmouth into a 10-5 lead.
Some good driving play allowed Ieuan Brockway to quickly nip in another to bring the lead up to 15-5 just before a half time.
Second half and another player to make his mark quickly after coming off the subs ‘bench’ was Benji Horn who fought his lone way up the pitch to within a couple of yards of the try line where his team mates saw him and the ball driven over the line to give him a well-deserved try.
This was shortly followed by a truly outstanding try from Ieuan Brockway who, having ably defended our try line to thwart a Honiton score, ran the length of the pitch, with the home team in his wake, to vocal encouragement and applause from the side-lines as he touched down to increase the lead further.
Towards the end of the second half Honiton exploited a gap in the Exmouth defence and forced home a try, but none the less, this really was Exmouth’s day.
A second try from Harry Sale followed, and his determination to step up to the challenges set by the coaches earned him the well-deserved title of Man of the Match, and finally Finn Musgrove echoed his strong start with his second, and Exmouth’s final try, resulting in an admirable score of Exmouth 35 against the home team’s 10.
It was a game where everything came together and each member of the strong squad of 13 played their part to produce the final result. Training sessions focusing on rucking and mauling paid off with some particularly strong driving from Harry Sale, Connor Philp and Solomon, playing in his first match. Dylan Foster and Ryan Langson, two of the newer squad members also took the opportunity to show off their developing tackling skills. The line outs were sharp and disciplined with players such as Olly Sturdy and William Baker, communicating well and covering all the angles.
Outstanding Effort award this week went to Dylwin Bichot who was focused and on the ball throughout. Well deserved, although not an easy choice to make on a day that saw every team member play his part and deserve a mention.
