Unseasonably warm and sunny weather saw Exmouth under tens field a strong squad of 15 in their away match at Cullompton on Sunday.

However, it was Cullompton who got off to a flying start with a try after two minutes of sustained pressure.
Despite some fierce defence from Scott Atcheson, Benji Horn and Finn Musgrove Cullompton were over the try line soon after but a foot had gone into touch.
Strong forward play from Harry Sale and Liam Daniels saw Exmouth make good ground but they were forced back and into touch. Despite turning over the ball Exmouth needed a penalty to clear their lines. This only gained them a few minutes respite before Cullompton crossed the line for their second after 9 minutes.
Ieuan Brockway nearly scored from the restart but was forced into touch by a resilient Cullompton pack. Exmouth quickly conceded a penalty, which resulted in a run of sustained possession by Cullompton. Rather against the run of the play, Iuaen Brockway pounced on a loose ball and needed no further encouragement to race the length of the pitch and put Exmouth back in touch.
A slight lack of concentration at the restart allowed Cullompton to extend their lead right on the whistle.
It had been a tough half with the disciplined Cullompton rucking dominating the breakdown and denying the fast Exmouth team the possession they needed.
Things got worse for Exmouth as Cullompton scored immediately from the restart. The second half soon took on the same pattern as the first, but Exmouth managed to make more ground with fine runs from Dan, Connor and the two newcomers Dylan Foster and Dilwyn Bichot. It was Dylan Foster who also made a try saving tackle before an Exmouth penalty nearly put Connor Philp over in the corner only to be denied by the touch line.
Things looked like turning for Exmouth when a more discipline from the forwards allowed Harry Sale to force the line for a score 5 minutes into the half.
An immediate Cullompton riposte dampened Exmouth spirits but a great team effort allowed them to cross the try line twice in the 9th and 14th minutes but on both occasions, the ball was deemed to have been held up.
The final score of Cullompton 25 Exmouth 10 wasn’t really a true reflection of the match as, with more composure at the restarts and a focus on winning the ball in the ruck, Exmouth would have held their own against a strong Cullompton side.
Well done to...
Man of Match - Ieuan Brockway
Outstanding Effort - Liam Daniels
