Exmouth U10’s recover to defeat Taunton 30 - 15

When these teams last met in October, Exmouth were on the wrong side of a very heavy defeat. However to demonstrate how this team is improving Taunton found themselves having to defend for long periods which they did very well but it was Exmouth who crossed the line fist unfortunately they were denied the try as the ball was successfully held up by the Taunton defence. Next it was Exmouth’s turn to defend but Taunton broke free to score. Exmouth again applied pressure with a drive from Harry Sprague and a maul formed which Exmouth controlled well and the ball was fed out to Thomas Preece to level at a try each. Taunton scored again take a half time lead. The second half again was evenly balanced but Exmouth who were missing a few key players failed to convert the opportunities into points whereas Taunton scored two more tries.

Following an encouraging team talk and a juggle of players the teams came out to play again. With Taunton scoring first Exmouth seemed to be fired up and determined to get the results for their efforts and so it was Olly Cowley who took control of the ball and levelled the score for Exmouth. Taunton regained the lead when they broke free and outpaced the Exmouth defence. Not to be outdone Toby McConegy turned and drove for an excellent solo try. The status quo was maintained by some impressive tackling from Cowley and Ben Stuart. Exmouth then found themselves leading following great defensive play from Blu Sandy who then stole the ball and passed to Edddy Ford who drove forward and fed wide to flyer McConegy who scored again. In the second half changes to the side again kept the pressure on Taunton and from a ruck in midfield Ben Dawson gathered the ball and sprinted for the line to consolidate the Exmouth lead. But Taunton were not finished and came back cross the Exmouth line again. Exmouth looked as though they were through to restore the margin but McConnegy was brought down just short of the line. After a ruck and scramble Dawson popped up to touch down for the teams 6th try of the match.

Next week Exmouth travel to Torquay and are not at home as shown in the fixture list.
