Battling Exmouth get no luck in the cup competition held at Exeter Chiefs Sandy Park ground.

On Sunday, the Exmouth RFC under 11’s traveled to the Exeter Chief’s Sandy Park ground to take part in the Land Rover Premiership Cup 2011. Exmouth were in 1 of 4 pools of teams and had tough opposition (Kingbridge, Redruth and Tavistock) to play in their pool. The winners of each pool would go through to a semi-final.

In the first game, Exmouth took on Kingsbridge, Exmouth were on the back foot almost instantly as Kingsbridge scored 3 tries before the break. In the second half, Exmouth played a lot better as they got much more determined in their tackling. Exmouth had a scrum about 8 – 10 metres from Kingbridge’s try line, with great pushing from the forwards Harvey Beatty, Jed Reid, Charlie Mears and Rhys Daniels, Eddie Hooper managed to hook the ball back for scrum half James Bridge, who darted through their blind side to get the try. Kingsbridge did reply before the final whistle to make them 5 – 20 winners.

The second game saw Exmouth take on Redruth and although Exmouth battled really hard with some great tackling, Redruth’s better team work saw them score 4 tries to make them 0 – 20 winners.

There was some further team rotation, so that everyone got a game and then Exmouth played their last game against Tavistock. And like in the previous 2 games, they had to work really hard to keep the opposition at bay. Some of Exmouth’s tackles got great cheers from the crowd watching as well as the opposition! But in the end Tavistock used their team well and the width of the pitch to score 4 tries making them 0 – 20 winners at the final whistle
