Exmouth draw away to Honiton in a game of 2 half's.

The Exmouth under 11’s were on their travels again on Sunday to play against Honiton and it turned out to an excellent game of two half’s. It was the home team who started quickest and got the first try, but after that and right up to half time it was all Exmouth. The whole team was playing well together and was very committed in everything they were doing, which resulted in their equaling try from Aaron Brigham-Jones. The great play continued with the forwards winning every scrum along with most of the rucks that formed. The pressure continued to mount on the home side and with some forceful play; Cormac O’Mahony drove over the line for Exmouth’s second try. Exmouth didn’t let up on the home side as they continued to keep the ball better than their opponents. Another scrum was won by Exmouth 3 metres from Honiton’s try line and scrum half Brigham-Jones added another try by slipping through on the blind side of the scrum. Half time and Exmouth were well on top.

As the second half got under way, you could see that the home side was a bit more up for it and Exmouth’s efforts in the first half had tired them a bit. This was Honiton’s half for long periods and they managed to score 3 try’s without reply to take them into the lead. There was a break in play and the coaching staff made a few player changes and managed to persuade the players that the game was not lost. It definitely worked, because in the dying minutes of the game Exmouth came back at Honiton and a nice passing move ended with Jack Greenaway taking the ball into contact and a maul was formed very close the Honiton’s try line. It looked as though the whole Exmouth team joined into the maul and with plenty of noise they managed to force Honiton back over their try line and Greenaway popped out the side of the maul to get the ball down for the try. A massive cheer went up from the team and their parents as they didn’t deserve to lose the game. Nick Eveleigh cleanly converted and the final whistle was blown.

It was another good team effort from Exmouth which followed their great win against Torquay a fortnight ago.
