The Exmouth RFC under 11’s had their first home game of the season and it turned out to be a fantastic home win. From the kick off, both teams battled for everything and neither team could make an advantage on their opponents. Nearly all of the play was taking place in the middle of the field with quite a few dropped passes and knock on’s. But steadily Exmouth built up a head of steam and started to progress up the pitch. A ruck was formed about 5 metres from Sidmouth’s try line when suddenly Jed Reid picked up the ball, rolled off a couple of tackles to storm through and get the try. The team was elated, which continued when Nick Eveleigh converted to add to the score. The first half continued to remain an even match and this carried on into the second half. A lot of scrums were taking place and Exmouth was dominating in this part of the game, the front row of Harvey Beatty, Eddie Hooper and Jed Reid backed by the second row of Charlie Mears and Rhys Daniels were constantly battling hard and winning, keeping the ball in Exmouth’s favor. Exmouth did manage to push forward for a period in the second half and were very close to scoring a second try but Sidmouth managed to clear to set up a tense final few minutes of the game. When the whistle blew, the watching parents let out a cheer along with the players and the manager Mark Greenaway who was extremely happy with their performance and their first win.
