Exmouth put in a brilliant 1st half performance but fall short in the 2nd half

The Exmouth RFC under 11’s were on the road again, this time visiting Okehampton on Sunday. The young cockles put in a brilliant battling performance in the first half and it was Exmouth who opened the scoring. After some great rucking and driving from the forwards, Jack Greenaway broke through to get the first try, followed up with a successful conversion from Nick Eveleigh. Okehampton did reply with a couple of trys but Exmouth’s heads did not drop and they continued to ruck and tackle really well to keep the ball for longer periods than in their previous couple of matches. Another nice try involving most of team, came from the hands of Eddie Hooper with a nice run, followed by Nick converting again. Okehampton replied with 1 more try before the break but had missed all their conversion chances, so Exmouth were only a point behind at the half time whistle 15 – 14. It was looking very evenly matched and the 2nd half looked to be heading in the same direction. But regrettably, Exmouth fell asleep in the second half and didn’t continue with the fantastic work they put in the 1st half. Okehampton took full advantage of this and they ran away with it, scoring 6 trys and 4 conversions to run out 53 – 14 winners. The coaching staff will take some great positives from the 1st half and hope that the team can play like that for a full game when they travel to Topsham next week.
