Both teams came out strong and were committed in their tackling, but it was Chard that scored the first try after spotting a gap in the Exmouth defence. The remainder of the first half was fast paced with both teams chasing several long shots, which led to both teams having 14 points each when the whistle went to signal the end of the first half.
The second half, traditionally the young Cockles best half, proved to be an even faster paced, exciting, and physical half. Exmouth came out even more determined and rose to the challenge of the 2nd half by showing that the enforced Astro turf training was paying off through some excellent passing. All of the Exmouth Under 11’s played exceptionally well, however a few had outstanding matches. George Smale did really well with his tackling and supportive actions to earn him Outstanding Effort from the coaches. Finn Musgrove was on top form, not only for his kick and chase actions, but he also managed to score 2 tries and earned himself Man on the Match. Liam Daniels was also on good form and managed to cross the try line 3 times and kick at conversion, unfortunately the wind wasn’t always on his side. Harry Sale had a much better match today, and not only did he show signs of improving confidence in his tackling, but he also managed to score 2 tries.
All in all it was a brilliant game to watch with some excitement, passion and sheer determination. Although the score suggests a one sided match, it couldn’t have been further from the truth.
