Exmouth U11s show that teamwork is the order of the day with a fine win in an exciting match against local rivals Withycombe!

The first half saw the lead yo-yoing between the two well matched teams with determined defensive play and attacking forwards on both sides.
Withy took the first try and neatly converted taking them into an early lead, but the Young Cockles soon executed a tidy piece of team work to move the ball smartly out to the wing allowing Liam Daniels to touch down over the line, and then to neatly convert their first try.
Another successful break from the away team and an equally successful counter attack from the home side, alongside conversions on all accounts, saw the score standing at 14 v 14 when the half time whistle blew.
As is their custom, the young Cockles came out with even greater determination after the half time debrief. And it was in this half that their strength in support work and accuracy of passing came to the fore. Tries five and six went to the home team; the first from within a dynamic rolling mall, the second again saw the ball passed rapidly out down the line and touched down just inside the corner. Liam Daniels held on to his 100 % conversion rate for the match to take the Home team score to 28.
Not yet beaten the Withies put up a determined fight, and again a lone forward managed to break from the pack to storm down the wing taking the score to the Away team to 21, after the following conversion, and giving the last few minutes of the match some added tension as the Withies fought to level the score and the Cockles fought to hold their lead. The final whistle blew as the score stood at 28 v 21 to the Home team.
And so, in a match where picking out individuals was never going to be easy, the squad continued to make their coaches face difficult choices. It was the second half that saw Ryan Langston earn his ‘Outstanding Effort’ award, whilst a well-deserved ‘Man of the Match’ title went to Benji Horn for his strength of support throughout the game.
Try scorers today were Liam Daniels, Ieuan Brockway and Benji Horn. But, with every try based on solidarity and teamwork, credit must go to all players on the squad in what proved to be a truly entertaining and enjoyable match!
