An exciting win on a gloriously sunny day

Both teams were closely matched and determined to make their mark from the first whistle. Today, however, it was Exmouth’s turn to take the honours with a final score of 28 v 7 to the Home team.
Finn Musgrove touched down the first of 3 of the home team tries before a pause in the action to honour the occasion with a minutes silence to remember lost heroes. Play resumed with a second try for the home team going into half time. Finn again touched down early in the second half before Ieuan Brockway claimed the final Home try. Each try the result of close team work; strong work in the scrum, accurate passing and nimble footwork in open play. Rucks were tidy and hard fought, and passes fast and accurate. With several newcomers to the squad this season, play that had previously been patchy found its form this week and hard work paid off. Any player would deserve a mention today, however, with a view to a watching our new players it was clear that relative newcomer, Keenan Palmer seems to have found his home as an effective Full Back whilst George Smale adds to the formidable scrum line up for the Young Cockles. The final much deserved try went to the visitors.
With every member of the Exmouth team playing their part, the coaches were again hard pressed to pick out individuals. Liam Daniels came out as Man of the Match today, moving on from missed opportunities last week to blast home 4 out of 4 conversions this time around. Connor Philp stepped up to the mark showing real improvement in his play across the pitch to secure the Outstanding Effort award.
The final score of 28 to the home team and 7 to the visitors confirmed the strength of play from the home team but belied the capabilities of their opponents. A great game!
