Exmouth U 11's too strong for visiting Sarecens.

Exeter Saracens came to Exmouth with a team comprising of several newcomers to the game who were to receive a lesson in passing and tackling from the home side. Saracens were also short of an experienced Scrum Half, so Exmouth loaned Josh Cressall in the first Half and in the second half he swapped shirts with Stewart Masters so both had the opportunity to play both with their own team and Sarecens.

From the start Exmouth took control. With less than 2 minutes gone, a swift move out wide released Davis who sped past the opposition giving a taste of the pace the Exmouth backs possess to touch down in the LH corner. Eddie Ford stepped up to convert the try getting Exmouth off to a flying start.

Not long after, Exmouth again crossed the line but the ball was judged to be held up. It didn’t take long for the attack to be renewed and in a thwarted dash for the line Dawson popped the ball up to Ford who touched down for try number 2. Ford then converted his try. The third try of the first half came from an Exmouth scrum. Saracens were driven back and the ball was quickly fed out and found Harry Neath-Rogers. The powerful forward capitalised on his success in the scrum to drive through 3 attempts to stop him and touched down for try number 3, again converted by Ford.

The second half started as the first ended with Exmouth on the attack. A Saracen scrum deep in the opposition half was overwhelmed by Exmouth. Scrum half Cressle saw the gap and released the ball to Richard Forrest who scored in the RH corner. Conv’ Ford.

The restart saw Saracens press forward but strong play was stopped in its tracks by the imposing figure of Harry Sprague. The ball was passed to Vinnie Neath Rogers who smashed through the Saracen defence before releasing the ball to Sprague in close support who continued the power play and scored a well worked try. Conv’ Ford.

At this point Ford was replaced. The next try came from some slick passing which released a thundering drive by Davis for the LH corner but was driven out of play. A fatal mistake in the line-out allowed the giant figure of Sprague to collect, and with his head down in a determined drive for the line scored his second. Cressle stepped up to convert.

At the restart pressure was applied to Exmouth who conceded a forward pass in their half. Saracens lost their advantage in the scrum, and the ball was picked up by Cressle who fired it out to centre Dawson, who sped through the defensive line to score. Cressle stepped up again to convert the try.

Saracens applied some rare pressure from the restart. A series of knock-ons saw Exmouth concede possession. In a rare but well worked and well deserved attack on the Exmouth try line, Saracens scored a consolation try which they then converted.
A forward run by Saracens from the restart penetrated the Exmouth half but was decisively stopped when another crunching tackle this time by Luke Davis, regained possession for the Cockles. The ball went wide where it was collected by Dawson who accelerated past a series of tacklers down the RH wing to score in the last play of the match. Cressle again converted.
This was a great game for Exmouth who’s passing and tackling was at its best although there is still room for further improvement. The man of the match honour was shared by the backs who had a great game. Tackler awards were given to forwards Jarred Palmer and David Zrolko.
