It was a pleasure to see another great home team performance from the Exmouth under 12’s on Sunday. Only narrowly losing out to the Exeter Chiefs by a couple of fine solo runs from the visiting team. The boys worked so hard for each other again continuing on from the win last week. Again it was Exmouth who started the much better side, the team kept the ball for long periods due to the fantastic rucking over the ball from forwards - Jed Reid, Harvey Beatty, Charlie Mears, Cormac O’Mahony, Rhys Daniels, Tom Bray & Eddie Hooper. The forwards were also bossing the scrums winning the majority of them. And when the Chiefs had the ball, they didn’t keep it for long with committed tackles flying in from such players as Aaron Brigham-Jones, Nick Eveleigh, Sam Gooding and Owain Brinkworth. And showing the team how to pile the pressure on the visitors when they had the ball came from Jack Greenaway. The first try came from Exmouth when Eveleigh put in a long kick and thanks to the pressure put on the opposition from Greenaway, a penalty was awarded to Exmouth. Hooper took it and drove over the line. Hooper then helped with the second try when he went on a fine run and Brigham-Jones finished it off stretching over the try line. Then, the only poor spell of the game came for Exmouth when they lost their tackling spirit, some Chiefs players went on some long solo runs to score 3 straight trys. Exmouth rallied again with outside support from Greg Marks, Jamie Goulder, Wade Pitman, Martin Joubert and with a nice run from Kyle Webb, they gained a penalty which Hooper again took and forcibly drove over for Exmouth’s final try of the game. Both teams missed a conversion each making the final score 19 – 26 to the Chiefs. Man of the match went to Jack Greenaway for his committed work rate putting constant pressure on the opposition.
