Armstrong powers Cockles to great win.

A fiery encounter at the Imperial ground between two equally matched squads on a beautiful sunny morning in Exmouth.
Both teams started really well, with some hard hitting tackles, rucking & counter rucking with very equal possession in the first ten minutes, If anything the Crediton squad settled into the game earlier than their Exmouth counterparts and it was against the run of play that saw a forward move get the ball into the hands of second row Andrew Wheeler for Exmouth’s first score of the day.
Crediton responded almost immediately and levelled the scores with a fantastic run down the wing.
For the remainder of the half it was back to measured work from both squads with neither team able to breach the others defence.

The second half started in a similar vain, and it wasn’t long before mid Devon determination meant that the Crediton boys would start fighting for everything and they did this with abundance which resulted in yet another surging run that split the cockles defence to give them an early second half seven point lead.
Exmouth responded with passion and determination and with some great forward interchange allowed Wheeler to pick up and power over to give the Cockles hope by reducing the deficit to 2.
It was at this point in the match that Exmouth seemed to find that elusive 5th gear and started to win every scrum, every maul and ruck with an intensity that is rarely seen, forward moves from Dan Armstrong and Kai Brockway set up attack after attack, and with some great back passing through Reece Banks and Tarquin Kerton-Johnson the ball eventually ended on the wing with super quick second row Nat Aasma who sprinted through for a very well deserved score of his own. Exmouth were definitely not done yet, and it seemed they may score from every attack, but the crediton defence continued to repel the attacks. To round off the days events, James White set up Alex Taylor to bring the ball from the deep, Adam Furneaux superbly set up a forward move that saw first Armstrong and then Brockway power the ball 30 yards, before Wheeler went over for the Cockles fourth, giving a final score 20-12.
