Exmouth U 13s to strong for hosts Wellington

Exmouth U13’s needed to restore some pride during Sundays visit to Wellington after failing to perform the previous week at Exeter.

This was the teams first meeting with the Wellington club and they did not know what to expect from their hosts. As it turned out this was to be a fairly one sided contest but both sides had difficulty keeping the wet and slippery ball in their hands. The saving grace for Exmouth was their dominance in the scrum which did reduce the effect of the constant knock on’s and ensure Wellington were put under pressure each time they spilled the ball.

During a busy first half Exmouth ran in four tries and successfully kicked all the conversions. But the period ended when one of the Wellington Players suffered an injury for which the home coach thought advisable to seek professional medical. An ambulance was called but was a long time coming. The second half was played on an adjoining football pitch as the casualty was not to be moved.

The second half continued with Exmouth running in a further five tries but no conversions were taken. Exmouth loaned a player as replacement for the injured Wellington Forward and Olly Cowley was to be congratulated for pulling on a Wellington shirt after previously been very effective during the first half for the Cockles. Korbin Gillman came off the bench in the second half and demonstrated that he has great potential in this sport with some great defence and even more impressive carrying the ball, for this he was named as player of the Day.
