Exmouth played host to High Wycombe on Mothering Sunday in the Semi Final of the area National cup, in front of a large crowd at the Imperial Ground.

Exmouth played host to High Wycombe on Mothering Sunday in the Semi Final of the area National cup, in front of a large crowd at the Imperial Ground. Exmouth started the game strongly and put pressure on High Wycombe from the first whistle. The young Cockles [played with the wind in the first half and made good use of the elements. 15 minutes into the game Exmouth won a penalty 5 meters from the Wycombe line. Skipper Simon Hartery decided to run the ball and took it on himself and ducked under a couple of tackles to score a well deserved try which Owen Flinn converted.10 minutes later Owen Flinn kicked a penalty after Wycombe were caught offside. Exmouth continued to run the ball back at the visitors at every oppertunity and just before half time scored 2 tries, the first try was the try of the game. Sam Conway broke down the blindside and fed back inside to Matt Wells who ran to line and touched down under the posts. Flinn converted. The other score came from Sam Conway who barged his way over after the forwards drove towards the try line. Flinnhit the post with conversation . Half time score.22-0.
At the break High Wycombe won alot more ball and ran at Exmouth with more purpose. However Exmouths defence held firm, with Josh Adams and Matt Wells putting in some strong tackles.Wycombes only score of the game came from a penalty after Exmouth were caught handling in the ruck. Exmouth continued to put in a defensive performance and this resulted in Hartery scoring his Second try off the game. After a big hit in the Midfield, Hartery picked up the loose ball and charged his way to the line from 10meters out. Flinn converted. With the final move of the game Exmouth turned the ball over on the halfway line and passed the ball along the back line to Brad Neilson. The winger then raced along the touchline to score in the corner. Flinn converted from the touch line. Final score36-3. This was very much a Team performance and now the under 17's will be going to Cleve on the 1st of April to play the final of the national South division.
