Cockles 2nd team keep the pressure on the leaders of Devon Merit Table 1 with a comprehensive win at Tiverton Rugby 2s. The final outcome was never in doubt and both Exmouth forward pack and slippery backs were in fine form. The final score-line might have been higher, with a less boggy, heavy pitch. First half tries from Centres James Willmott and two from Dan Sanders with a Tom Steer conversion showed the lads intent, 0-17 at half time.
Front row Dan Carey added the bonus point try before Tivvy got on the scoreboard, 7-22. The forward pack fronted up against a physical Tiverton pack and backs used the free-flowing ball supply to their best advantage. Team Manager, Robbie Lowe singled out Matt Seager for particular mention for a livewire performance. Wing Harvey Ridgeway ran in two further tries, Tom Steer converted one, to bring the final score to 7-34. According to Ian Dunstan, he and Martin Westaway in the engine room, also put their experience to work in the line-outs. Tiverton were disrupted all afternoon.
Last season League Champions Okehampton 2s are the visitors next weekend. This should be a cracker. The boys will be keen to continue their winning ways.
