2nd Team v Teignmouth 2s

On arrival the home team at Teignmouth were putting in a massive effort to clear standing water so the game could go ahead, in atrocious conditions. Well done fellas.

Exmouth 2nd Team had not played since mid-October, due to weather cancellations and teams pulling out, the lads needed rugby and that is exactly what they got. It was clear from the start Exmouth had their work cut out, with no first team game Teignmouth appear to have loaded a few lads in to their team to strengthen up. The first half was pretty even, with a Tom Steer try & conversion balanced by a home side converted try, 7-7 at half time. Wheels Harvey Ridgeway added the Cockles 2nd try, converted by Steery, 7-14 with Teignmouth coming back 14-14. Exmouth backs Ethan Lansgon Justice at scrum half, Steer, Ridgeway, Nick Wright, Ned Mills, Aussie Grant Bunch and Jacob Unwin kept the ball moving outside and it was the latter Jacob Unwin who scored next, Steery converting 14-21. Teignmouth would not stop and came back to level at 21-21, heading in to the final 10 minutes. It was Man of the Match Unwin who struck again with his second try, the final points from the boot of Steery, 21-28. Exmouth forwards under the guidance of skipper Joe Harris, had to work hard to close this game out, front row, Andy Lendon, Grant Vaughn-Atkins and Matty Harris with Dan Armstrong and Connor Smithers in the engine room, provided the muscle and grunt. Defensively Ash Reid, Matt Seager and Joe Harris, along with the impact lads, Paul Flower and Sam Fulthorpe (max effort to get to the game from work before the game finished), all did their bit to keep the ball close. The final 6 minutes was a masterclass in pick and go inside your own 22 metre zone to protect the ball.

The bonus point win keeps the Cockles 2's team In 3rd place in Devon Merit Table 1, with two games hand. The best way to close out the first half of the season.
