This was going to be a tough game on paper and it turned out to be a close game. The Cockles Under 16's started the game very lack lusted after last weeks win against local rivals Withycombe. Torquay came to play an expansive wide game and in the early exchanges they took the lead with two quick unconverted tries. 0-10. These were given away with sloopy missed tackles. After 20 minutes the Cockles started to heap more and more pressure on Torquay which lead to scrum-half Sam Conway linking up with Fly-half Owen Flinn to put pressure on the Torquay defence. This led to the forwards Connor O'Shaughnessy, Brad Cooke, Charlie Gibbons and Jake Gilbody putting in a great effort and playing good forwards rugby in the tight but were not able to breach the Torquay line before half-time. The second-half started with the Cockles again on the attack which led to the Cockles camping out in the Torquay half. This led to Charlie Gibbons driving over the line, with all the forwards taking part in the build up. Score 5-10 The Cockles struggled from the set pieces and then Torquay against the run of play scored Toquay scored and converted score 5-17. With Chris Skinner and Conway putting in a lot of mileage sweeping up behind the backs, the Cockles attacked until the final whistle. Final Score 5-17 Great yeam effort in the end.
