Exmouth U16's Slip Up

A lively first half saw Sidmouth immediately rock the young Cockles with an early onslaught. Exmouth weathered the storm of Sidmouth attack with some brilliant defence, especially Matt Wells, Jake Gillham and Marcus May. The Exmouth front row with Harry Griffin hooking, were taking the opposition ball at will. Also outstanding during the whole game Dan Bradford Jones put the Sid back line under the cosh. The deadlock was eventually broken when Sidmouth breached the Exmouth try line. Sidmouth then lost a player to the sin bin due to some overzealous defending. With the score at 5-0 it was Exmouth who took control of the first half. A blistering break from his own 10 metre line saw Matt Wells carve up the Sidmouth defence. Brandon Perry on his inside shoulder took the scoring pass to touch down. Owen Flinn hit the upright on a blustery day, the score tied 5 - 5 at half time. After some good early pressure from Exmouth the second half followed a disappointing route. On four occasions wayward kicking from defence lead to Sidmouth returning the poor decision making with tries on each occasion. Great ball carrying from Jake Gilbody, Matt Harris & Sam Conway did drive The Cockles on. However with injuries disrupting the Exmouth side the final result, 31 -5 to Sidmouth, flattered the visitors.
