The match up delivered exactly what you would expect from a Devon v Cornwall clash. The Cockles completed their second double of the season winning 27-21, first game taken in Camborne in November. The Cockles claimed a try bonus point victory for good measure.

A high intensity start was rewarded when Full Back Sam Whitehead went over out wide after a flowing move across the back line. George Meadows missed the kick but showed a few nice positional nudges throughout the half. Returning Centre James Willmott, who had been running well in the 2s, also looked very sharp, cutting some great attacking lines through the Cornishmen defence. Camborne hit back on 17 minutes, Rob Gurnett scored a try, converted by David Mankee, 5-7. This was as physical as it gets and scrum dominance from the front row Gareth Walker, Nick Halse, Shane Cooper with Jack Madge was clear. George Meadows slotted a penalty on 21 minutes, 8-7. On the half hour some great sniping work from Scrum Half James Bath delivered his first try for the Cockles, converted by Meadows, now 15-7.

The second period started just as the first when Flanker Ben Hawley went over out wide following our boys receiving the kick-off. Some great interplay, from Bath box kick up the field saw Hawley crash over in the corner, conversion missed, 20-7. It looked a though the Cockles were in control although Camborne are never down. Tries from Tommy Lee Southworth and Andrius Zacharovas, both converted by Mankee swung the game back to the visitors, 20-21. With 15 minutes remaining, The Cockles showed grit, determination and some fine form across the team. Great field position after a couple of penalties in their favour, the home side battered the Camborne line. It was James Bath with the second of his brace, who delivered the killer blow, converted by Meadows. A real snipe and burrow score, well taken. The important 4th try gained the 5 point league win. A fine afternoons work was completed by the hardworking forwards with the backs protecting the ball for at least 10 minutes to close out the game.

Next week, Saturday 14th March, The Cockles have a rearranged game with West-super-Mare, who lost on the road at Newbury over the weekend.
