This was an entertaining encounter between two teams who featured a number of new and emerging players, alongside more established lads.
Both sides looked to have fun in the sun and ultimately used the workout to; make a few errors, fumble the ball, hit big tackles and show improving slick handling (from both squads). Cockles Tries from Charlie Tribble, Jack Madge, Rich Cadywould and James Willmott with conversions from George Meadows and Cadywould, ensured the home side went 2 for 2 in 1st XV pre season games. Barnstaple did lead at half time 19-24, a couple of passing mistakes from our boys made easier pickings. However Barum were very sharp and made a real fight until the end. By the final whistle the Cockles had closed out at 33-24. Exmouth forward pack looked impressive and backs showed pace when the foot was on the gas.
Added spice for our league encounters later in the season. Pez will have made a few positive and improvement notes in his little black book.
Our South West Premier season starts at Home on Saturday 7th September versus Ivybridge RFC.
