Coaches Comments from the 64-3 victory over Old Centralians

Exmouth RFC demolished visitors Old Centralians in an impressive 64-3 victory in testing conditions at the Imperial Ground. Back Rower Ben Hawley was deservedly given the man of the match award, but this could have easily been given to the likes of Jack Fahy, Ollie Rice, Ollie Pyne, Will Goulden or Mark Wathes in a huge team performance.

Head Coach Jon Hill Comments:

"That is five wins on the bounce for us, and is thoroughly deserved for the huge efforts that the players are putting in at training and the culture that they are driving off the pitch.

"I felt that we were a little wasteful in the first half and blew three very good try scoring opportunities. That said, our defence was rock solid and our line speed caused Old Cents some problems. We played well into a strong breeze and kept the ball for long periods. Mark Wathes started the game like a man possessed, making a number of line breaks , that gave us key momentum in the game.

"At half time we were 19-3 up, and the start to the second half was always going to be crucial. Harvey Ridgeway continued his try scoring exploits with the bonus point soon after and then we were able to successfully raise the pace of the game further, a pace at which Old Cents struggled to cope with our lively outside backs. Ollie Rice in particular was a menace throughout and thoroughly deserved his try hat trick.

"It was very pleasing to give good game time to Lloyd Watkins, Lee Loveridge and Harvey Ridgeway, who have all spent time waiting in the wings in the 2nd xv. They all made big contributions to the team performance and the strength in depth at the club is encouraging, especially when you consider that today we were missing last seasons player of the year James Harris, last seasons top try scorer Richard Bright, Talisman Second Row Chris Bentley and former Plymouth Albion Captain Ruairi Cushion.

"The majority of those players should be available to the Cockles next Saturday for the Mouthwatering clash away at Dings Crusaders."

Tries: Pyne x2, Rice x3, Hawley, Ryan, Ridgeway, Bargent, Watkins

Cons : Powell x 5, Meadows x 2
