Played out at Sandy Park. Thank you all who made it to see this ferocious encounter. The lead changed hand 5 times and it was fitting that our young Cockles who produced great rugby, take the Devon Colts Shield 27-20. Topsham were a tough nut to crack and proved why they topped the League. Great rugby from both teams.
Scorers Charlie Garratt, George Mears, Alec Larssen-Carter and James Clarke delivered the tries. Clarke also added seven points from the boot. It was the commitment of all players, who took to the hybrid playing surface at the home of Exeter Chiefs, to set the opportunity. Skipper Joe Harris and Connor Macdonald closed down Topsham with brutal defence. Caleb Sampson and Taiyla Young were unplayable when carrying the ball. Even Caleb didn’t know where Caleb would end up.
Despite injury and unavailability this season, the final squad of 23 came together for the final. All our Heroes were recognised with medals.
Several of the squad have made senior appearances this season, the strength of our youth rugby at Exmouth looks in great shape for our club future.
