Bonus Point Win for The Cockles Youngsters.

In the chase to catch the current leaders of Devon Merit Table 1, Exmouth had to overcome Barnstaple 2nd team in second place.
A strong line-up for the young Cockles ensured this was a lively contest that saw the lead change hands 3 times. Quicker out of the blocks than their visitors Exmouth scored first though a Jack Downie try, followed by a penalty kick from Harry Ottaway, the hosts in front, 8-0. Clearly Barnstaple had decided they would compete and hit back for their first try, conversion missed, 8-5. Not content and with play swinging back and forth, they scored their second try to take the lead, 8-10. This was a physical encounter that saw injuries to Ned Mills and Andy Lendon, however Exmouth were ready to fight back and recapture the lead through a well taken Will Hockin try, 13-10. This seemed to galvanise the boys and it was clear that James Goss, Matt Seager with Harvey Ridgeway would make life difficult for the opposition. Exmouth further increased their lead through Dan Armstrong crossing the whitewash for his try, also a second score for elusive Jack Downie, converted by Ottaway. The game closed out with a 4 try bonus point victory, 25-10. A great game from both teams. It was the young Exmouth lads, including a couple of current Colts Jack Greenaway and Owain Brinkworth, who deserved the applause from the spectators.

A super team performance from all.
