1ST TEAM V WESTON-SUPER-MARE RFC ~ MATCH REPORT

One Bonus Point

For the second time in two weeks, the COCKLES travelled to Weston-super-Mare, after a late postponement on arrival the week before. Taking one bonus point from this outing was some reward that should have been greater. Take nothing away from the hosts, with lowly league position, they fought for pride and got the result on the day, winners 38-28.

The lads did score four tries, Nick Headley (2), Ben Hawley & Matty Ryan, with four conversions from Gareth Roebuck. They got within two bonus points towards the end of the match, whilst chasing the game, an intercepted pass handed Weston their wider score victory.

It was nip and tuck until half time, the COCKLES going into the changing room, ahead 12-14. Handing match debuts to Adam Watts at full back and Dougie Chappell in the backs during the second half, the boys continued to push the game. When chasing the result, errors occur and that was exactly happened, missed passes, dropped ball with strong turnover rate from the hosts. COCKLES scrum took a while to settle against a much heavier pack & free running back line always looked dangerous. Weston defence was resilient. The COCKLES had their chances however were unable to make them count, the final try on full time for Weston, probably summed up the afternoon. Six tries to four.

COCKLES 1st TEAM make the short trip to Ivybridge RFC on Saturday 16th March, Kick off at 2.30 pm. An important fixture that counts towards the Devon RFU Senior Cup standings for the semi-final places.

COCKLES COLTS ran out 15-0 winners over Paignton RFC Colts, keeping the young Exmouth squad on track for a Colts Bowl competition home semi-final on Saturday 6th April.
