U11s Tested but Triumphant! Tiverton 7 v Exmouth 19
Fabulous weather made for a fantastic game of rugby as the Exmouth U11s made the journey up the motorway to play Tiverton at home.
After last week’s driving rain on a soggy pitch, today sunshine and near perfect ground made a welcome change and set the scene for a tough, yet entertaining, contest.
It was a fast and furious game as the two sides proved to be well matched, and the Exmouth lads did themselves proud. Despite some exciting moments and a serious determination from both sides, by half time, the score still stood at nil nil.
As they entered the second half, however, the Exmouth lads upped their game to put the home team under further relentless pressure. Five minutes in and Ieuan Brockway scored the first try, converted by Liam Daniels. The second followed soon after when Benji Horn ran the line, fooling his chasers with a dummy pass five metres from the line. Again Liam Daniels found a clean line between the posts to convert.
There was no sitting comfortably as Tiverton managed to find a gap in the defence and a lone player nipped past the Exmouth defenders to sprint towards the line and score a well-deserved try for the home team. But today was Exmouth’s day and Ieuan Brockway sealed their win, and his title as Man of the Match by a superb run, dodging several opponents, to place the ball in the corner. The conversion kick fell short this time, but still left the visiting Exmouth team victorious as the final whistle blew.
Practise in training is paying off as first class team work proved a strength of the game, alongside some excellent individual play. It was Ben O’Neil’s turn to take home the Outstanding Effort Award today for some great individual moments, amongst them a superb clean catch from a seriously high kick!
As we have come to expect, the Exmouth lads were a pleasure turn out for and support. Today they produced some seriously good rugby against a tenacious and determined Tiverton side!
