Exmouth 12 - 19 Pontypridd
Good display of competitive junior rugby.
Following the excitement of their tour to France last week it was now ERFC U14s turn to host touring sides. On the day Exmouth had no fewer than 18 teams at Imperial Road with the U14s facing North Dorset & Pontypridd rugby clubs.
With only a short break The Cockles were up again to face Pontypridd and again lost the toss and had to play into to wind. The team from Wales were well organised and asked many questions of Exmouth running in two tries before the home team were able to get any momentum. Patience was the order of the day and Exmouth continued to work hard and concentrate on ball retention. Going through the phases eventually left room for Dawson to exploit space out wide but again the weather was making long range kicks difficult and Eddie Fords kick dropped just short.
Pontypridd then capitalised on a turnover and extended their lead before Dawson was on the end of quick ball to score under the posts this time the kick was more straight forward and Ford brought the final score to 12 – 19 in favour of the visitors.
The final match of the day was between the two visiting teams and North Dorset had the benefit of a longer break and the wind behind them to take the victory by 12 – 0.
This was a good display of competitive rugby between 3 fairly evenly matched teams and very much enjoyed by home and away supporters.
