Exmouth 10 - 10 North Dorset
Exmouth secure a draw against talented visitors.
Following the excitement of their tour to France last week it was now ERFC U14s turn to host touring sides. On the day Exmouth had no fewer than 18 teams at Imperial Road with the U14s facing North Dorset & Pontypridd rugby clubs.
North Dorset RFC (from Gillingham) were first up and were fortunate to win the toss and played with the strong wind on their backs. The first 10 minutes was a fairly even contest with play firmly fixed in the middle of the field, until the visitors found space on the left wing to score an unconverted try. Exmouth maintained their composure and were rewarded when a the visitors backs ball handling let them down & Zac Tucker kicked on and dropped on the loose ball to score the equalising try, however the strong wind was making kicking duties difficult and Stewart Masters conversion attempt flew just wide of the post.
Exmouth were having difficulties in the scrum against the much heavier pack from N.D. and when they lost their own scrum just inside their half they were not able to prevent another tey being scored in the same spot. The young Cockles were not prepared to roll over and fought back with a last ditch effort and retained the ball well through the phases and eventually released Ben Dawson who was able to touch down again in the corner. The match then concluded at 10 – 10.
