Tour Victory for U14s
French Coach describes the Cockles boys as "Class, Pure Class"
Exmouth U14s have just returned from a very successful tour to Nuelliac in Brittany. Where they were entertained by nearby “Rugby Club Potivyen” in Pontivy. The match was dominated by Exmouth but the hosts were encouraged by some moments of skill and determination against a well organised and motivated team. It was agreed to play the match in four 20 minute periods to allow the opportunity for maximum playing time for all the players from both teams and this worked very well.
Exmouth ran in 10 unanswered tries during the first 3 periods and to balance things up the final period was mixed up with Exmouth forwards playing alongside the Pontivy backs and the visa versa. Tries were coming thick and fast from both forwards and backs but one of the highlights was a typical scrum half try scored by Ollie Jones after a free kick was awarded for scrum a infringement by the hosts, Jones was quick thinking and took a quick tap penalty and dived through 4 or 5 French players for a fine individual effort which he then followed with a drop kicked conversion.
A squad of 24 players made the cross channel trip and enjoyed the occasion and the hospitality which included a presentation from the town Mayor and a warm welcome from the many locals who turned out to watch. Though it has to be said the French side were far superior when it came to singing the National Anthems prior to K.O.
