Both sides had changes from the previous week, but it was the Cockles who, after a couple of good midweek training sessions, gelled well and the visitors, whilst competitive for the first 20 minutes, were second best in most aspects of the contest throughout.
A strong cross-field wind was a factor in the game. George Meadows produced one of his best performances to date for the Cockles with a display of quality kicking.
It was his opposite number Ben Lovell however, who opened the scoring with a penalty on two minutes. From the restart the Cockles were on the attack with Rich Bright and Mark Wathes combining well to put Ollie Rice in for the first home try of the game and Meadows slotted the conversion.
Meadows slotted a penalty soon after and, in the 15th minute, a lack of communication cost the Cockles with Brixham centre Dean Squire exploiting a large gap to ghost through and score and a Lovell conversion levelled the scores.
Exmouth used the driving maul to good effect with props Matt Harris and Nigel Berry working hard up front and they enjoyed plenty of possession which, coupled with fine tactical kicking ended with a rampaging run from Ollie Pyne saw the exciting back rower crash over to score.
