Exmouth see off Barum in Devon derby bonus point victory
A workman-like bonus point win, in the process recording their first double of the season and preserving a four year home winning run against Barum
The Cockles welcomed back Chris Bentley to the starting line-up along with Nigel Berry, and Richard Cadywould whilst skipper Dave Bargent made a most welcome return after a lengthy injury lay-off.
Barum made a good start and scored a third minute try, full-back Will Topps crossing and Jordan Petherbridge slotted the conversion.
That early score drew an instant response from the Cockles and the forwards took charge. With the try line approaching the visitors’ player-coach Steve Perry bagged the wrath of the match official, earning a yellow card for collapsing the maul and Rich Cadywould slotted the resultant penalty.
With a solid forward platform in both loose play and the set piece, the Cockles soon made the extra man tell when, from a line-out in the visitor’s 22, number eight Ross Morshead peeled off the maul to score the first of the home tries.
