Exmouth cruise at Bracknell despite score line at final whistle

From The Exmouth Journal: Exmouth made one of their longer trips to Berkshire last Saturday to play a well resourced and ambitious Bracknell side

The final score of 37-31 to the Cockles suggests a tight affair, but the reality was Exmouth were always in control and the game was beyond their hosts by the hour mark.

The Cockles started well playing up the slope George Meadows slotting a quick fire penalty with just two minutes gone. Meadows added another 10 minutes later as the Cockles defence dominated and attacking options looked sharp. It was great defence that set up the Cockles first try, a possible try of the season contender; turnover ball set Richard Bright away from his own 22, beating several defenders he slipped the ball to Mark Wathes and the talented centre saw space out wide and his long range pass picked out wing Matt Ryan who finished in style. Meadows kick pulled just wide. Bracknell used their massive forwards to batter the Cockles but all to no avail, James Harris, George Savage and Ross Morshead standing out with some crunching tackles.

Exmouth organisation seemed solid whilst the hosts felt the pressure, again turnover ball set up the Cockles next try, fullback Ollie Rice set off on a dazzling run, beating eight defenders until tackled just a metre short, his quick offload found Garry Hooper in support he dotted down and meadows converted to put the Cockles 18 points up.
