After 126 days and 13 successive defeats, the Cockles faithful at last had something tangible to cheer! The previous league success had come back on November 23, again in front of the Imperial ground faithful when Clifton were beaten 36-34.
However, this victory was far more emphatic, and no fluke either!
Cambridge arrived in East Devon sitting a lofty sixth in the table and, with the home side preparing for life back in National Three (SW), no doubt some of the travelling support anticipated a good afternoon!
The Cockles took an early lead with a drive-over try from a five-metre line-out, finished off by prop George Savage and George Meadows tucked away the conversion. The visitors responded with a try, but that merely served to tweak a nerve amongst the Cockles who went up the other end and bagged a try by Todd Lowry that Meadows converted.
