After 3 weeks off the colts took on Torrington at home and produce an excellent team performance. The colts were struggling for players on Saturday, after 5 late call off's. Exmouth had to use players out of position and would also like to thank Owen Flinn and Jake Cunningham for stepping in. Torrington came to Exmouth quite confident after putting 50 points past them only 3 weeks ago. Exmouth won the toss and decided to play with the wind in the first half. The game was evenly matched for 20 mins with the only score coming from a penalty to Torrington. Exmouth forwards won alot of good ball for scrum-half Aaron Conway, who with Fly half Flinn used the ball well to keep Torrington in there 22. Both teams tried to play with the ball in hand however with the ball being very slippery, knock ons occurred at try scoring opportunities.
Exmouth turned down 2 kickable penalties but on the stroke of half time Flinn stepped up and kicked a very well judged kick. 3-3 at half time.
Exmouth were lucky in the second half as the wind died down and the sun came out.The game was evenly matched in the second half, Torrington attacked and Exmouth defended strongly. Exmouth made 2 chances in the 2nd half and scored both. Exmouth Forwards, lead by Conway drove up the field for Simon Hartery to score an unconverted try.The last move of the game was a line out to Torringtons on the halfway line. Seb Opie stole the line out and the ball was passed out to Paul Bright. Bright broke two tackles and ran up to the 22 and passed a 10 metre pass out to speedster Brad Neilson, who scored in the corner. Final score 13-3. Special mentions should go to Harry Turner who played out at position at prop and Jake Cunningham who had an excellent game on the flank, returning for his 2nd game of the Season. This week the colts are at home to Brixham.
