Exmouth scored seven tries to Tiverton's one in an exciting and competitive pre season friendly at Tiverton on Friday night. A half time score of 19-16 to Exmouth told a story of a first half littered with errors, in greasy conditions, with Exmouth guilty of a high penalty count.

A dominant Exmouth scrum, an outstanding Tiverton goal kicker, and resolute defence from both teams were key characteristics of this entertaining fixture which saw Exmouth's new signings Ben Hawley and Ollie Rice put in impressive performances.

Tiverton were well drilled throughout, led impressively by former Plymouth Albion player Wayne Sprangle and former Exeter Chief Tom Skelding.

Exmouth's head coach Jon Hill comments:

"This was an excellent pre season fixture for us, played in difficult conditions against a well drilled and highly spirited side. Initially I felt that we over complicated things in the first half, made a lot of errors in key positions, and chased lost causes at the breakdown in defence. Our second half performance was much more satisfying, although there are key areas that we must iron out in the weeks ahead such as our kick game and exit strategies, as well as the respect we gave to the ball when in possession.

"Ben Hawley and Ollie Rice were once again impressive as they look to cement their place in the league squad, and Chris Bentley brought some composure and quality to our play when he came off the bench. It was also extremely pleasing for George Savage, Ross Morshead and Shane Cooper to get 50 minutes on their return from injuries."

Man of the Match was Ollie Rice with two tries and some superb counter attacking skills on show.

Tiverton: 1 try, 1 conversion, 4 penalties
Exmouth: 7 tries, 3 conversions
