Exmouth Departures
As is common place with modern day rugby at this level, there has been a fair amount of player movement during this particular off season. In all honesty, in this off season, we have seen a number of players leave the 1st xv squad at Exmouth, for a variety of reasons (two retirements and two exhausted VISA's!) and this has been higher than anticipated.
Confirmed departures so far:
Bob Armstrong (Second Row) has retired from senior rugby (this deserves a separate press release due to his amazing contribution to South West Rugby over the past 100 years!!). This will follow in the next few days.
Mike Wilson (Hooker) has gone back to Australia with his family having been here for four years. Tubbsy has been a hugely popular figure with everyone at Exmouth RFC on and off the field. A ridiculously hard nosed individual on the field, a complete grafter, and an entertainer off it. That journey back from Chinnor, with guitar, pasties and Tom Barnard is a personal favourite!!
Dave Kimberley (Back Row) has retired from rugby to spend more time with his family. Dave has been a player coach for the last three years, and has made a significant impact in many areas of the club. Enjoy your fishing Kimbers and a possible career in refereeing .... I think you've seen a yellows!!! We know you'll miss Savage ... Mmm
Andrew Powell (Fly Half). Has made a massive impact on and off the pitch in the last four years since arriving as a skinny young Kiwi. He has been the club's top points scorer, top try scorer, player of the year, and has many other accolades on and off the pitch. A great club man, a fantastic player, who has clearly been the difference in many tight games over the last three years. 'Kiwi' is likely to be playing overseas in 2014 as he continues his world domination!
Adam Higgins (Centre) Adam joined us mid way through the season from Bournemouth as he was at Exeter University and struggled with the travelling back home to play. He featured in a number of 1st xv games in the second half of the season. He has now completed his studies and heads off to Canada for a year to play rugby.
In addition to the above confirmed departures we may well be losing two or three others who are trialling with higher level clubs, and/or going to University. These will be confirmed in due course.
On behalf of the club, we would like to thank all of those players moving on for the significant contribution to the Cockles over the years. 2012/2013 was the most successful season in the club's history, and everyone above has made a key contribution towards this achievement
