Jon Hill conducts a Mid Season Review

ON OUR LEAGUE POSITION

Catching Barnstaple is not any form of concern right now. We have 13 massive league games and the Devon Cup to worry about so are putting all of our efforts into the huge challenges that we face.

We are so far away from achieving anything that any form of discussion about promotion or play offs is completely redundant. As you will have seen with results in a huge number of games so far this season, there are a number of teams who are extremely competitive and who are all capable of beating each other on their day.

TARGETS

Form and consistency has to be the way forward and the key focus for us as a team. We have been absolutely amazing at times, in particularly against Lydney, Chippenham, Hornets and Old Cents at home, and have really demonstrated team spirit and work ethic in away games against Dings, Cleve and Old Reds. However, we are also aware that we have been very poor in three Devon Derbies and owe it to ourselves to up our game in these pressure environments.

SQUAD

No new signings and we are not actively looking to add to our squad. We are very happy with what we have got and feel that we have strength in depth. Playing against Old Reds and having three scrum halves pull out in the build up goes some way towards showing that we feel we can cope. Any signing at this stage of the season can sometimes (not always) be damaging to team spirit based on the hard work and effort that the guys have put in. When you consider we have won our last eight games and have gone away from home and come through four big character tests, why would you then take a shirt away from someone who has put their heart and soul into those efforts. If we had an injury crisis then we may have to think about it in a couple of positions where we are light but for the time being we are very happy with what we have got and will continue to try and promote from within , as our 2nd xv are doing very well this season and sit top and unbeaten in the Devon Merit Table. There has been lots of movement between teams this season and this is indicative of the strength of our system. "
