Second Row Matt Handford become the first summer signing

Exmouth Rugby Club have made their first signing of the summer with the addition of 20 year old, 6 ft 5 inch, 18 stone second row Matt Handford, who is being sponsored by Laminate & Worktops Southwest Ltd.

Handford, who represented South West Under 20's last year whilst studying at University of St Mark and St John is no stranger to Head Coach Jon Hill, as he is a former student and 1st xv rugby player at Exeter College, and has represented Devon at Various Age groups.

Hill comments:

"Matt is a great signing for us and has chosen us over a number of other interested clubs, because he feels that he can progress with his rugby and knows that he will be worked hard. Matt is a very honest and hard working young man who wants to achieve big things. He is ambitious and is hugely into his conditioning and speed work. He has all the credentials and has alot of potential in the game. We very much look forward to working with him this coming season.

"Our thanks go to Stuart Shaw of Laminate & Worktops Southwest Ltd who are coming on board as a new partner this year and who are sponsoring Matt. It is with the assistance of local businesses that we are able to continue to punch above our weight in the National Leagues".

Stuart Shaw of Laminate & Worktops Southwest Ltd comments:

"We are delighted to support the Cockles for their forthcoming season in National Two and are proud of their achievements last season. It is great to have so many of our local teams doing well and the Exeter Chiefs and Exmouth RFC are really flying the flag for local rugby in the South West right now. As a business we are pleased to be able to support some of our local teams including these as well as Alphington Cricket Club, and will be monitoring Exmouth's progress this season. We are already looking at other ways to support the club moving forward".
