Former Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) Centre Alex Goldman becomes Exmouth's seventh summer signing ahead of their National League Two debut season.
Goldman is certainly no stranger to many at Exmouth, having previously played for Crediton, Devon Under 20's and is a former Exeter College 1st xv captain. He has just completed his Sports Science degree at UWIC and is due to start a teaching certificate at the University of Exeter in September.
Exmouth RFC Head Coach Jon Hill comments:
"Alex got in touch with me a few weeks ago about the possibility of joining Exmouth as he was moving back to the Exeter area to continue his studies. Alex has always taken his rugby very seriously and is very keen to try and establish himself in the National Leagues, having played in Wales for the past three years. He was one of the standout performers in a Devon Under 20's squad a couple of seasons ago and gained rave reviews from former Exmouth player Dave Kimberley, who coached the Devon side.
Hill continues:
"Alex was a superb Exeter College captain, who led by example and who has always had an outstanding work and conditioning ethic. I know that he will work exceptionally hard in pre season, and his ability to play at 12 or 13 gives us options. It was Alex who recommended last weeks signing Tom Emery, who has been a housemate with him for the past couple of seasons. We are delighted to have both on board, especially on the back of the fact that both players approached the club about joining because they see us as a club playing at a very club level, and one that has good values and structures in place.
"Following the departure of Adam Higgins, and the likelihood of current centre/wing Paul Morgan being in rehabilitation when the season starts, we are now in a position of strength in the centre with the signing of Goldy, and the news that Navy centre Dale Sleeman is likely to be available much more next season. In addition to these players we are also boosted by the return to availability of Ali Hill who was hampered by work commitments last year and the addition of new signing Chris Swash. We are well aware of the need to have a big enough squad to cope with the demands of increased physicality that National Two will bring as well as the four additional fixtures that we will be playing."
