Exeter Chiefs Academy hooker and Mini junior and Colt of Exmouth Charlie Gibbings signs for the Cockles

Charlie Gibbings has become the Cockles' second signing of the summer as we look to replace departing Captain Tom Emery, who has signed for National One Outfit Henley Hawks.

Gibbings, (18) came up through the junior ranks at Exmouth and has also played for the colts , whilst also playing for Bicton College and the Exeter Chiefs Academy.

Head Coach Jon Hill comments:

"Charlie is one of a number of excellent young players who the club have developed over the past few years in a talented group including the likes of Ollie Dawe, Zac Mattin and Connor O'Shaughnessy.

"Wherever possible we will always look to promote from within, and demonstrated this with Ollie Dawe, who made his debut last season and was also involved in the play off game. Charlie is well known to many at the club, and trained with the senior squad last year as part of his development. His involvement in the AASE league and Academy league has given him good levels of exposure to high level rugby and we hope he can now make the next step into senior rugby with his hometown club.

On the departing Emery:

"We wish Tom the very best on his rugby pathway and really hope that he can go onto become a full time professional in the near future. He has made a massive impact at Exmouth the last two years and will be sorely missed. We thank him for his contributions and for driving things on and off the field. We are pleased to have played our part in his development and have been a 'shop window' for him. This is a reflection of where we are in the rugby pyramid and we are pleased that we have helped produce another success story"
