The Grove Pub sponsor new signing Matt Garner who returns to the Cockles

Utility Back Matt Garner has signed for Exmouth RFC in time for the start of the season.

Garner is no stranger to the Cockles, having played at the club before, but last season signed for Cullompton, due to work commitments. With Cully's relegation to Western Counties (West) and a desire to play at a higher level, Garner has rejoined the squad and is a timely boost due to injury concerns over Ollie Rice who may miss the start of the season.

Head Coach Jon Hill comments:

"We are delighted to welcome Matt back to the club. He is an extremely popular member of the squad and is very talented. He has an ability to be a game changer, and is comfortable playing anywhere in the back line which is a useful asset to us. Having discussed positional options with Matt, we are looking to utilise him in the back three so that he can concentrate fully on his game and his own development without being shunted around. With question marks on the initial availability of Ollie Rice, Matt looks likely to start the season at full back, where we can tap into his counter attacking qualities.

"We are extremely grateful to the Grove Pub, Exmouth, for their player sponsorship of Matt that has allowed us to bring him back to the club. Julian and Joanne Watkins are very keen rugby supporters and it is great that we are developing a relationship with another local business"
