Coaches comments from 31-14 victory over Weston super Mare

Exmouth 31 Weston Super Mare 14

Coaches comments:

"Today was a game which we had billed as the most important of the season because of the consequences of victory, or the possible effects of a loss. The game was all about confirming home advantage next week for the promotion play off, and in that respect, we are delighted to have beaten a side who had massively improved in recent weeks and had come into the game on the back of three victories in their previous four games.

"We opened up in a very positive fashion and out worked Weston for a couple of scores, which gave us a good cushion. We also had to withdraw Chris Bentley and Ollie Pyne in a two minute spell, as a precaution, and we coped with this reorganisation well. Eighteen year old Ollie Dawe, on debut, gained 65 minutes of National League game time, which will stand him in good stead for next week and the future. We were also able to rest influential centre, Mark Wathes, in order for him to be 100% fit for next weeks promotion showdown.

"George Meadows kicked well throughout, and our performance would be described as workmanlike, rather than impressive. However, in a game where it was all about the result, it was very pleasing to see the work ethic of the players be as high as it was, which is a reflection of the strength of the group. Second Row forward Jack Fahy epitomised this work ethic and gained the man if the match award.

"So we now know we will be playing Barnes, at home next Saturday (25th), in a one off game for promotion to National Two. This is such an exciting time for the club and something that we have all been working towards. We are now possibly one game away from achieving our goal for the season, and hope to be able to pick from a fully fit squad next week."
