Exmouth Rugby Club have pulled off a significant signing with the capture of former Plymouth Albion Captain Ruairi Cushion for the forthcoming season.

Cushion has been a consistent performer in the Championship for the last six seasons, and last year served Albion as a player, analyst and skills coach. The Irishman is very well respected in the game and is due to qualify as a physiotherapist at the end of the summer, having combined professional rugby with his studies in recent times. Cushion played 143 times for Albion across six seasons, and was team captain in 2012/13 and club captain as recently as 2013/14. His representative honours include Leinster A, Ireland Club xv (3 caps) and the Barbarians.

Cushion has just taken a job with the Exeter Chiefs working on their player development programme, and will continue his Physiotherapy work alongside his rugby commitments with Exmouth and the Chiefs.

Exmouth RFC Head Coach comments:

"Ruairi may miss one or two of the pre season games as he continues to rehab his thumb, and an occasional game may also be missed throughout the season with work commitments. His versatility to play in other positions, and his ability to mentor some of the younger players at the club to accelerate their development is a key feature of our desire to bring him to the club.
