The Cockles add Sam Conway and Will Goulden to the squad ahead of the League Season

Exmouth confirmed the signings of prop Will Goulden and Back three player Sam Conway prior to kick off against an Exeter Chiefs Academy xv last night.

Conway has signed from league rivals Barnstaple, who the Cockles face in their first league game and is a former Exmouth junior and colt, and who has just broken into the Scotland Under 19's Rugby league team. Conway is being sponsored by the Property Press.

At 19 years of age, Conway has made an instant impact in pre season scoring a hat trick of tries against Topsham last week, and scoring off the bench against the Chiefs XV. His finishing ability is something that excites the coaching staff as yet another home grown talent rejoins the club. Connor O'Shaughnessy, Sean Harrison, Charlie Gibbings, George Mears and James Mattin are all current or former Colts and juniors as the club looks to harness its own talent. Of the squad that played the Chiefs, add in Richard Cadywould, Mark Wathes, Richard Bright and Lloyd Watkins of the more senior players at the club and it is testament that the club is able to produce so much of its own talent to play National League Rugby.

Goulden is a 27 year old tight head prop who hails from Northern Ireland but who works locally as a vet. He has playing experience in the Scottish National Leagues playing for Glasgow based Hillhead Jordanhill RFC, and captained them for a season. He spent last year playing for our neighbours Honiton RFC after moving down to Devon, and we thank them for not standing in his way of playing National league Rugby. Honiton, as many people are aware, have a number of their former players wearing heliotrope in the National League, and it is testament to them as a club, that they have produced such talented players. His signing is a huge boost on the back of the fact that Nigel Berry looks set to miss the start of the season with injury.

Will is being sponsored by Gary Sharland Building Contractors. Gary himself being a former Cockles front row Player who mastered the 'darker arts' of the game in his prime!! Goulden has played in the pre season games against Honiton and Topsham and had 80 minutes at tight head against the a Chiefs last night.
