A superb weekend for Exmouth RFC With 1sts, 2nds , 3rds & Colts all winning!!

A 31-3 second half score line was enough to secure a bonus point victory over our Devon rivals who certainly had the better of the first half.

A wind and slope were both advantageous to Ivy in the first half and Exmouth in the second and this was reflected in the scoreline.

Lewis Paterson's men started the brighter of the two teams and demonstrated why the Paterson had billed Ivybridge as promotion contenders this season. Strong back play opened up some week Cockles midfield defence and four try scoring first half opportunities ended with four tries scored- a fine return for their territorial advantage.

A few choice words and some tactical changes saw a rejuvenated Exmouth return for the second half with Tom Whelan at the fore of a lot of Exmouth's attack game.

Head Coach Jon Hill comments:

"We were poor in the first half both mentally and defensively. We were too soft and allowed Ivybridge to develop their offload game to great effect. We have to be better and ensure that the opposition have to work much harder to score against us.

"We were nowhere near as disciplined as last week against Lydney and our work rate without the ball must improve.

"That said, I was very impressed with our spirit and work rate In the second half. We battered Ivybridge up front and I felt like we really should have had a penalty try at scrum time.

"Tom Brown stepped across to do 80 minutes at tight head in Tom Barnard's absence and was excellent. Charlie Gibbings, Dan Armstrong and Mike Richards all had big games, as did Ross Morshead in his first start in over 18 months. Player Forwards coach Dave Bargent gained the man of the match award for a superb performance in the back row. His work rate was phenomenal.

"We hope to welcome Davy McGregor, Tom Barnard, Ben Hawley and James Harris into the squad next weekend so should have plenty of options in the coming weeks. We are delighted with the depth we have in various positions, outlined by the fact that the 2nd xv beat their Ivybridge counterparts 24-7, and the 3rd xv beat Crediton 2nd xv 19-0. The Colts were also victorious 45-5 against Crediton. "
