Coaches comments on 37-7 loss to Redingensians, National League Three

Head Coach Jon Hill comments:

"Firstly, it would be pertinent to congratulate our friends and rivals Redingensians on their promotion to National Two. They fully deserve their promotion and appear to have a very strong foundation and infrastructure at the club, as well as a clear vision, and must be applauded for their performance today. We, As a club, wish them all the very best for next season, and will be hoping to join them in two weeks time!"

"Today was a game of fine margins for large parts, with literally a fag paper between the two teams in the first half. Redingensians scrum vs our driving maul and line out, with both sides attacking wide in the middle third of the pitch. Redingensians have some very smart performers and their kick game along with pressured chase allowed them some good field position.

"They ran away with it in the last fifteen minutes to start their promotion party, and we must reflect on four or five occasions where we had opportunities from 5 metres out, and did not score. The key defining moment in the game for me, was when they had two guys in the sin bin, and we had a line out 5 metres out and we did not score. Redingensians went on to score a penalty with 13 men, and the a try with 14, due to a defensive lapse. Credit must be given to Redingensians, whose defence was solid and well organised, and whose attack was clinical and efficient. We must also shoulder some responsibility, as we made key errors at crucial times.

"With Barnes scoring a penalty try in the last minute of their game to gain a bonus point victory, we now know we must front up against Weston Super Mare next week, in what is a massive game for us. We now need at least a point to ensure we have home advantage on April 25th for the Promotion Play Off. We hope to welcome back Chris Bentley and Henry Goldson next week who both missed out on selection today due to injuries. Nigel Berry is probably another week away from being available, so won't be pushed into action next week."
