Head Coach Jon Hill comments

"A very pleasing victory away from home in very difficult conditions. The victory was characterised by a huge work ethic from the boys, especially in the second half, where we rolled our sleeves up and kept the ball for very long periods.

"In the first half the game was extremely even with both teams looking to play with a bit of ambition. Debutant James Vidler scored from distance as the back three moved the ball well. We had to defend on our try line for periods as the hornets forwards made good inroads around the fringe.

"Two of our scores came in the second half from 15 man mauls , to highlight what a team effort this was in the mud. Jack Fahy scoring both tries.

"The result was even sweeter considering that we were missing top try scorer Ollie Rice, and influential scrum half Ruairi Cushion. We also lost Charlie Gibbings and then Ollie Pyne on the day, regrouping very well.

"Lloyd Watkins and then Matt Ryan plugged the spot left by Cush, and it was Matt Ryan who gained the man of the match award for an energetic performance throughout.

"Hornets are a very well organised young team who will certainly be a team to watch for the future. Playing with almost exclusively a home grown team, they can be proud of their achievements as a club and will no doubt mount a challenge come the end of this season and beyond.

"Special praise should also go to the referee Charlie Gayther , who allowed the game to take place in the first place and allowed the game to flow throughout. It is always easy to blame a referee or focus in upon errors made by an official, but Charlie's low error count today should be applauded , especially given the conditions. "
